Join our weekly nurturing sessions with our Forest Guardians

We are gathering together to give our plants the water and nutrients they need to flourish as well as to remove the invasive species that are competing for space. This is a great chance to make friends in the community and learn more about Portuguese native species while doing some valuable work for the environment.

A Day of Wonder and Nature for Ukrainian Refugee Kids and Moms

We hosted a special event for Ukrainian refugee kids and moms on our reforested plot. It was a day of wonder, laughter, and the simple joy of being in nature. The children had absolute fun partaking in an insect scavenger hunt, searching for tiny creatures among the greenery in three different languages. This event was managed by our volunteers and truly shows that nature knows no boundaries, as we interacted and taught about the world of insects in 3 languages! Being in nature offered these children a sense of normality and tranquility. It's a sanctuary where every child can just be a child.

A Rhythmic Tribute to Culture: Batucadeiras das Olaias!

Meet the extraordinary Batucadeiras das Olaias – a spirited ensemble of Cape Verdean men and women from Bairro Portugal Novo, Olaias, Lisbon. Their mission? To celebrate, share, and honour the vibrant history, culture, and memories of Cape Verde! Batuku isn't just music; it's a soulful connection to Cape Verdean roots and a link to the diaspora. It's the rhythm of friendship, the harmony of neighborhood, and the beat of shared stories that unite communities. Our recent forest gathering was graced by the Batucadeiras' mesmerizing performance, weaving culture and camaraderie. From music to memory, they brought Cape Verde's heart to life!

Join Urbem as we educate the new generation on our native species, creating urban forests, building communities, and taking positive action.
